More Rom-Tragedy than -Comedy, but definitely a bittersweet heartbreaker: With “You &Me” the Brits once again show that they still excel at capturing the ups and downs of love and life.
Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love with girl. Girl falls in love with boy. Resistance is overcome, rivals out of the way. And they lived happily ever after. Until they don t. "You & Me" begins the way "Love" or "Notting Hill" begin - and then goes down a darker path. Although Ben (Harry Lawtey) and Jess (Sophia Brown) are allowed to get to know each other in the most romantic way imaginable it is doubtful whether they will find happiness. Because happiness and misfortune lie close together in the with six short episodes manageable dramedy, which dares to ask the question of whether from strokes of fate still great feelings can be born. Spoiler: They can! Without overstraining our faith in love and with clever variations on numerous rom-com clichés, "You & Me" matures into a real tearjerker whose warm-heartedness lingers on for a long time. Producer and screenplay legend Russell T. Davies ("Years", "It's A Sin") just knows how to do it...
