Shortly after the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler, a mysterious death occurs aboard the British nuclear submarine HMS Vigil. One of the sonar experts has allegedly died of a heroin overdose and Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva is tasked with investigating as inconspicuously as possible on the ship, while her colleague and friend Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) tries to weave together the threads on shore. For both the Royal Navy and British Intelligence have something to hide, and the threat level in and around the submarine, which is on a dive, is rising inexorably...
So this is what comes out when the BBC combines the claustrophobic confinement of "The Boat" with the cleverly calculated suspense of British crime thrillers: A rather breathtaking whodunnit under the surface of the sea, to which "Game of Thrones" star Rose Leslie as an investigator on land the much-needed fresh air. Responsible, by the way, of the high voltage forge, from which already "Bodyguard" (with another "GoT" star) has emerged and garnished with a beguiling title song of the Danish singer Agnes Obel.
