A remote Balkan town, a businessman, an engineer from Zagreb and what should be a disused factory: "The Last Socialist Artefact" follows Croats Oleg and Nikola, who are tasked with procuring a rare turbine for a mysterious colonel. But making it requires not only renovating the old factory, but also waking the associated town from its slumber. And with it its inhabitants, who must first come together anew for the unusual task.
The books of Croatian author Robert Perišić are regarded by international literary critics as authentic portrayals of a society in transition and its heroes. This is especially true of "No Signal Area," on which the prestige Croatian series is based. Directed by Dalibor Matanić, the series provides us with superbly acted and, above all, outstandingly written insights into post-socialist everyday life in the former Yugoslavia. And captivates with its enigmatic tone and a production that is always close to the people (the episodes are named after the respective protagonists).
