The Czech Republic is considered a gateway for the European meth trade. And young David is one of the (very) small fish that keep it going. Until he is forced by a dirty cop to become a "rat" and betray not only his partner Rene, but also the Czech-Vietnamese syndicate that controls the drug trade. This soon has dramatic consequences for all involved. Especially for David, who is pulled deeper and deeper into the deadly and uncontrollable web of organized drug trafficking with a female police officer.
The white lab suits and gas masks we still know from the meth labs of Walter White, but the associated scenario is not only more European, but also much younger than that of "Breaking Bad". The main character David is hardly older than the users he supplies with drugs. The cops are just as ruthless as the Czech-Vietnamese syndicate they are trying to break up. Based on true stories from the Czech drug swamp and made in cooperation with the Czech Republic's anti-drug center, "Rats" rivals the world's "Narcos" as an Eastern European prestige production. And leaves a bitter aftertaste.
