Small-town cop Mare (Kate Winslet), in a deep crisis after the suicide of her son and the separation from her husband, is confronted with the murder of a young mother. Apparently there is a connection to several missing girls, which she is now to uncover together with County Detective Colin Zabel (Evan Peters). Soon it becomes clear that not only Mare has to fight with her demons, but that her immediate environment is also guarding dark secrets.
So this is what it looks like when the principles of Nordic Noir find their application in the hinterland of the United States. In the finest "The Killing" and "Broadchurch" manner, broken guys are allowed to investigate a broken community, led by a brilliantly performing Kate Winslet, alongside whom Evan Peters, Jean Smart and Guy Pearce, among others, shine. The main roles are played by the place itself and its oppressive atmosphere: series veteran Craig Zobel ("The Leftovers") shot Brad Ingelsby's material, which was nominated for eight Primetime Emmys, "on location" in the real Easttown.
