In the 1960s, Ed Edwards was one of the most wanted criminals in the U.S., alleged to have murdered at least five people between 1977 and 1969 after his release on parole. That there may have been many more is what this miniseries attempts to prove, based on the work of cold case specialist John Cameron and the research of Edwards' grandson Wayne Wolf. Together they try to link the serial killer to the Zodiac murders, among other things.
Hardeningly bordering on conspiracy theory, this True Crime documentary relies primarily on the work and evidence of John Cameron. Together with Edwards' grandson, he gathers circumstantial evidence and proof that Edwards is responsible for what feels like every other spectacular and as yet unsolved murder case in the US. It's fascinating and gripping, but also highlights the limitations and dangers of a genre that is growing in popularity.
