The Coup-Rapper Boots Riley follows in the footsteps of Donald Glover and Michel Gondry: “I’m A Virgo” is an enchantingly surreal, warm-hearted and uproariously funny comingof-age story.
Cootie grows up sheltered in an African-American environment in Oakland, California but not with his parents, but with Aunt Lafrancine and Uncle Martisse. One thing in particular is unusual about him: his almost unbelievable height of around 4 (!!) meters. Not only does a "You ve grown so tall" have a tragicomic connotation, but also his immediate environment has to be adjusted to extremes. Uncle and aunt prefer to keep him completely away from the outside world right away. Which only works until the boy is 19 years old. By chance, he is discovered by a group of politically active teenagers and confronted with the world or they with him. Or they with him. The beginning of a wonderful journey of discovery, with which director and rapper Boots Riley (The Coup) proves that his first film "Sorry To Bother You" was not a one-off. On the contrary: After Donald Glover ("Atlanta"), the US hip-hop scene seems to have produced another multi-talent with him.
