As if Aleksei German, Andrei Tarkovsky and David Lynch had made common thing: In the dark and surreal Kazakh (!!) series "1286" only the dreams are in color. 

Smoking dark men, dusty streets, men's bodies wrapped in carpets: Right from the start, the Kazakh series  "1286" makes it clear that it takes no prisoners. Not in artistic terms, but very much so on a narrative level. Here it catches the mild-mannered surgeon Aman, who is on the verge of separating from his wife when he is also abducted. Other criminals acquire the abductee, forcing him to work under physical and psychological pressure in a fascist-run labor camp, while his still-wife gets the authorities involved Or tries to get them involved. For her investigations are met with strange indifference. So she sets out on her own journey into a surreal-looking underworld, after which Kazakh "humor" of the brand  "Borat" is really out of the question.
