Writer and director Pia Hellenthal holds a diploma from the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. Her debut film Searching Eva premiered at Berlinale and has been showcased at over 80 international film festivals, including CPH:DOX, IDFA, Toronto, Museum of Moving Images New York, and Garage Museum of Contemporary Art Moscow. It has received nominations for prestigious awards such as the German Film Critics Award, the Cinema Eye Honor for Outstanding Debut, and the German Documentary Film Award.
In addition to her own projects, Hellenthal has worked in television, directing the BTF Mockumentary How to Tatort and the Studio Zentral Production WIR. She recently completed the TV series 30 Days of Lust, which has competed for the Best Director award at the 2024 Series Mania International Panorama Competition.
In 2023, she co-founded the production company Vicky Bane with her partner, Visar Morina.
