Professional Day Review 2015

The first Professional Day welcomed 300 visitors in the sold out Audimaxx to an ambitiuos program of case studies, lectures, and panels. International guests included writers, producers and executives like Rola Bauer (TANDEM PRODUCTIONS), Danny Brocklehurst („The Driver“, „The Five“), Shachar Magen („Betulot“), Nicola Lusuardi („1992“, „Gomorrha“), Philipp Steffens (RTL), Frank Jastfelder (Sky), Hannes Heyelmann (Turner) among others.




Keynote by Rola Bauer (Producer and Manager TANDEM PRODUCTIONS)

The native Canadian Rola Bauer has many years of experience in the international TV business as producer of the Ken Follet-miniseries THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH, WORLD WITHOUT END, as well as the series SPOTLESS and CROSSING LINES. 

Case Study 1 – THE FIVE with Danny Brocklehurst and Richard Fee

From the British production company RED, creator Danny Brocklehurst along with Richard Fee took us through the development phases of their new series THE FIVE. Danny Brocklehurst is a BAFTA and EMMY winner, while Richard Fee is currently the Development Executive of RED Productions. 

Masterclass: Shachar Magen (Writer and Creator of BETULOT - SIRENS)

Shachar Magen is the creator of several successful TV series in Israel and responsible for the hit FIRST FAMILY, for which U.S broadcaster "The CW" has secured the remake rights. With SIRENS he has recently created a gripping mystery thriller involving Israeli border police. Magen talked to us about his involvement as creator and author from his most noted projects in this Masterclass hosted by Emanuel Rotstein, Director Production for HISTORY and A&E.

Case Study 2 – “The Italian Way” with Nicola Lusuardi

Nicola Lusuardi (Script editor and writer), has analysed since years the characteristics and cultural importance of TV series. In 2010 he summarized those studies in his book "La Rivoluzione Seriale". In this case study he explained how the series GOMORRHA and 1992 were received in his homeland of Italy, and how they have gained an international reputation.

DISCUSSION – “Series in Germany – Status Quo and Outlook“

This panel explored idiosyncrasies, problems and challenges that are specific to the German market when it comes to Quality TV. Panel guests included Hannes Heyelmann (CEO Turner Broadcasting System Germany), Thore Vollert (Head of Marketing & Communications Studio Hamburg), Frank Jastfelder (Head of Drama Production SKY Deutschland), Thomas Sessner (BR NEXT) and Philipp Steffens (Head of Fiction RTL) and was hosted by the president of the HFF, Bettina Reitz.

PANEL - Inside the “Writers’ Room“

Writer Tac Romey (Phantomfilm), producer Florian Schneider ("Lerchenberg") und lawyer Dr. Johann Heyde (SKW Schwarz) discussed with Anna Katharina Brehm (SERIENCAMP) organizational, legal, and financial aspects of the writer's room model.

PANEL – Work in Progress: New German TV Series

DWDL chief editor Thomas Lückerath presented brand new series projects, which were showcased in their various stages of development by their producers or writers. These projects included URBAN DIVAS (Book: Felix Hellmann & Natalie Spinell, production: Andreas Hörl Lüthje Schneider hörl), BLOCKBUSTAZ (ZDFneo, Book: Niklas Hoffmann, Benjamin Seiler, Jakob Schreier, production: Rafael Parente, NEUE SUPER) and GOTTLOS (RTL2, book: Thomas Stiller, production: Marc Conrad (ConradFilm) and Jan S. Kaiser (Bavaria Fernsehproduktion).
